This weekend was just what the doctor ordered. We started with Pizza Friday (extra cheese and sauce) and a couple glasses of wine which Ben proceeded to try to scheme his way into (that kid is persistant and has hands of lightning speed). I fear Big Ben is going to be a partier come college (when he reaches the legal drinking age of course).
Neither Mom, Dad, Max or Big Ben made it past nine-thirty but that 's ok because Saturday was full of play. We pulled the coffee table aside, threw down blankets and pillows in the family room and played with a plethora of stuffed animals, books, and blocks while jamming out to the iTouch in front of the fireplace.
Funny thing about my iTouch. We had it on shuffle which meant that we would be jamming out to Kings of Leon or Green Day at one moment only to sing along to Cookie Monster and his "Me Lost Me Cookie at the Disco" or Kermit the Frog's "Rainbow Connection" next. Yes we are have become those people.
Interesting note on kids music. There is a song called the Calypso Pig in which Miss Piggy sings about her love for her green Kermy. In which he replies...and I am not kidding when I say this...Miss Piggy will get no play...Napkin, bib, knife and fork is the only way I'll touch pork. Can you believe that? Might be one of my favorite lyrics right now :)
Speaking of lyrics, listening to Mom belt out "Empire State of Mind" while Dad tried to harmonize to Michael Franti and Spearhead's "Say Hey" song all but ensured that our son won't be auditioning for American Idol anytime soon.
Inspired by the talking frog, we capped the night by eating smoked pork (our third attempt at smoking a pork shoulder (7 hrs) in the Big Green Egg). Thank you Steve Dembo for that recommendation. It truly is a wonderul thing. I think we have the timing down but not the right temperature. At least the mistakes have been tasty!
All that playing and singing paid off because Big Ben slept in this morning (almost 8am) which allowed me to expend much needed energy on shoveling. We had four inches fall last night for a total of two shovel jobs this winter (that's already double than the amount of pushing that I had to do last winter). Global warming my...pork shoulder.
Pictures and videos to come soon.
